Après avoir publié son nouveau roman Kitch: A Fictional Biography of a Calypso Icon, le romancier, enseignant, poète et slameur Anthony Joseph réalise aujourd’hui un vieux rêve, celui de présenter un album enregistré sur son île natale Trinité-et-Tobago. Depuis plus de dix ans les racines caribéennes de l’artiste sont omniprésentes dans son oeuvre comme sur son précédent opus Caribbean Roots où il glorifiait la richesse musicale de l’archipel dans un cocktail détonant de voodoo funk incandescent, de soul surréaliste et de free jazz. Son nouvel album People of the Sun qui sort sur le label Heavenly Sweetness, est un hommage au bouillonnant Port of Spain (POS) et à son carnaval, lieu de rencontre de nombreuses cultures et porte ouverte sur l’Amérique du Sud.

After publishing his new ‘Kitch novel’, A Fictional Biography of a Calypso Icon, novelist, teacher, poet and slammer Anthony Joseph now realizes an old dream, that of presenting an album recorded on his native island Trinidad and Tobago. For more than ten years the artist’s Caribbean roots have been pervasive in his work as on his previous Caribbean Roots opus, where he glorified the archipelago’s musical richness in a detonating cocktail of incandescent voodoo funk, surreal soul and free jazz. His new album People of the Sun, released on the Heavenly Sweetness label, is a tribute to the bubbling Port of Spain (POS) and its carnival, a meeting place for many cultures and open to South America.
