In the spring of 2011, when I was travelling the length and breadth of Africa with a group from Paris, I interrupted my “musical journey” to take in the Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA), held in Zimbabwe’s capital city. On a rainy Sunday afternoon, a then completely unknown group gave its first performance, just a few weeks after it had formed for the occasion.
